Beth Slaunwhite

Beth's journey with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) has been a challenging one. After years of being misdiagnosed and struggling with shortness of breath, she finally received a proper diagnosis in February 2016. Her perseverance and determination to help others in similar situations make her a passionate advocate for PHighters on Canada's East Coast.As a PHA Canada Ambassador from 2017-2022, Beth played a role in creating awareness and support for the PH community. Starting up an in-person Support group, Co-founding the Atlantic PH Support FB Group and hosting virtual meetups during the pandemic, have undoubtedly been valuable resources for patients seeking connection and information about their condition. Additionally, chairing the planning committee of PHA Canada's first in-person conference in the Atlantic region shows her commitment to improving the accessibility of resources and knowledge for patients in her region.An important aspect of Beth’s advocacy is emphasis on lobbying governments for proper treatment for PH. Putting PH specialists in charge of the accessibility of PH treatments can significantly extend and improve the lives of PH patients.  Her first-hand experience with misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis underscores the importance of having specialized care for this condition.Beth's passion for helping others and her unique perspective as a patient advocate means she can contribute even more to the PH community's well-being and advancement.As Beth continues her advocacy journey, her dedication and efforts will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by PH in Canada.
