Caregiver Supports

Services that support caregivers are available across Canada. There are organizations offering support, resources, and tools at local, provincial, and federal levels.

​National

Carers Canada
Carers Canada is a national coalition dedicated to increasing recognition and support for caregivers.

​

Young Caregivers Association
The Young Caregivers Association was the first organization in Canada dedicated to supporting
young caregivers and their families.

​

Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence
The Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence supports and empowers caregivers and care providers, advances the knowledge and capacity of the caregiving field, and advocates for effective and visionary social policy, with a disability-informed approach.

​

Canadian Abilities Foundation
The Canadian Abilities Foundation supports youth and adults with disabilities and their families and caregivers. They have a Caregivers Club and a magazine, Caregiver Solutions.

British Columbia

Family Caregivers of British Columbia
Family Caregivers of BC proudly and compassionately supports people in British Columbia who provide physical and/or emotional care to a family member, friend, or neighbour. They offer a caregiver support line, support groups, a learning centre, and more.

Alberta

Caregivers Alberta
Caregivers Alberta strives to empower caregivers and promote their well-being by providing resources, mental health support, and education for Albertans caring for family members or friends.

​

Alberta Health Services - Family Caregiver Centre
An initiative of Alberta Health Services in partnership with the Calgary Health Foundation, offering information, education and support to family caregivers.

Saskatchewan

Saskatoon Council on Aging - Caregiver Resources
They primarily provide services in person at their Saskatoon office, but they have a list of caregiving resources as well.

 

Manitoba

Manitoba Government - Resource List for Caregivers
This page on the provincial government website lists credits and rebates, family supports, health care resources, and legal resources. 

 

Ontario

Ontario Caregiver Association
The Ontario Caregiver Association works collaboratively with caregivers, healthcare providers and other organizations to improve the caregiving experience.

This page on the provincial government website lists information on services and supports for Ontario caregivers and family members

Ontario Caregiver Coalition
The Ontario Caregiver Coalition advocates for recognition and support for the family, friends and neighbours whose unpaid care is the hidden backbone of Ontario’s health system. Their membership includes caregivers, care providers, and health charities across Ontario. 

 

Québec

Québec Government - Informal and Family Caregivers
This page on the provincial government website lists government and non-government support resources and services.

L'Appui
L'Appui works to make everyday life easier and to preserve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of caregivers, ensuring that caregivers take full advantage of the resources available across Québec.

​

Proche Aidance Québec (in French only)
Proche aidance Québec brings together community organizations that support caregivers throughout Québec. They offer counselling, psychosocial support, and respite.

 

New Brunswick

New Brunswick Government - Supports for Caregivers
This site from the Department of Social Development in New Brunswick focuses on helping seniors, their families and caregivers navigate and explore available government programs and services. 

 

Nova Scotia

Caregivers Nova Scotia
Caregivers Nova Scotia provides programs, services, and strong advocacy for caregivers.

 

Newfoundland and Labrador

Bridge the Gapp
This Newfoundland and Labrador government site offers tips for caregivers and information about services. 

 

Prince Edward Island

Hospice PEI - Are You A Caregiver?
If you are currently a caregiver for a loved one with a life-limiting or palliative diagnosis, you are eligible for Hospice PEI respite services. They also offer a caregiver support group and a Caregiver Support Resource List.

 

North

The NWT Caregivers Guide
A guide for caregivers from the Northwest Territories Ministry of Health and Social Services.
