Over the past two decades, several new treatments for PH have become available. Developing new drugs is a long and complex process requiring several phases of study. In recent years, studies have aimed to demonstrate that adding a new treatment can prevent a series of adverse events. However, the researchers responsible for the study define this list of events rather than people who suffer from the disease.

The study authors conducted a pan-Canadian study to help clarify the importance that people with PAH, their caregivers and their medical team place on preventing each of these events and improve the clinical studies that will evaluate future treatments for PAH so that they meet the needs of patients.
